It’s true. Our family is going somewhat Flexitarian.
We are very non-committal about this. Meat is kind of starting to gross me out. It’s not all meat. It’s just meat as described in Food Inc. The non organic filled with feces, washed in ammonia, hormone riddled meat. It’s the pink meat from McDonalds in my kids’ chicken McNuggets. Not to mention the lack of dignity given to the animals.
Have we learned nothing from Temple Grandin!
I love meat. I love a big fat burger with all the fixin’s. I love a thick cut of bacon. I was raised eating ribs only looking up long enough to barbecue smile from ear to ear.
Hence the flexi in my tarian.
Do you know what the real thorn in my side is? It’s my own moral compass. I believe in peace, environmental responsibility and fighting poverty. I hate the idea of how animals are treated so that I can have my juicy burger. I have read more this year on unfair labor practices in farms than ever before. I think the way we eat has a greater effect on our community than I ever thought before.
We are starting with Meatless Mondays like a lot of other families and we are trying to purchase more organic meat too. I suspect, we will be doing a lot of learning about our food this year.
I do not care what you eat. I really, really don’t. I have no hidden agenda. You do what you want with yours and I will do what I want with mine. So don’t get all defensive, rear up on your hind legs and tell me all about why you’re way is fine. I already believe you. You’re way is fine…for you.
Tonight we had these really yummo-licious sandwiches. I added spinach and some baby carrots as a side dish.
Seriously good winter noms whether you’re becoming more flexible or not.
Enjoy your meals!
PS – If you have a recipe or any tips on how to cut down hormones and chemicals, you know where the comment box is. :) I would also love your tips on organically raised meat and produce. Got any favorite brands?
